- The world heritage site of Durham Cathedral and Castle, only just over 30 minutes away. Other places to visit include the Oriental Museum, the Durham Light Infantry Museum and the Botanical Gardens. The Gala Theatre offers a range of evening entertainment.
- Be awed by the power of England's largest waterfall at High Force.
- Hadrian's wall is only 40 minutes to the North.
- Our local wildlife is always on view in the Forest and at Low Barns Nature Reserve, 10 minutes away.

- Barnard Castle, with its market, ruined castle and Bowes Museum, provides an interesting day out
- Richmond also has a market, ruined castle and a quaint Georgian Theatre.
- Beamish Museum gives a fascinating insight into life in the North East during Victorian times.
- Darlington Railway Museum and the Locomotion Museum, Shildon, celebrate the first public railway in the world - the Stockton and Darlington Railway (1825). There is also a life-size model of Mallard, made of brick, in Darlington. Darlington also has its Civic Theatre.
- Newcastle is within easy striking distance with its shopping, the Hancock Museum and the Life Centre.
- Gateshead is a little nearer with the MetroCentre, the Baltic (modern art) Gallery and the Sage Concert Hall
- On the way to Newcastle, or Gateshead, why not stop to wonder at the Angel of the North.
- Killhope Wheel and Lead Mining Museum in Weardale give a fascinating view of the days when Weardale was the foremost producer of Lead in the World.
- A little further afield in Northumberland you can view, or walk, the glorious coastline, visit the seal and bird sanctuary (Farne Islands), ruined castles (Dunstanborough), and some not so ruined (Alnwick and Bamburgh), and country houses such as Cragside (the first house in England to be lit by electricity) and Wallingford.
- Stock up on farm produce and food at Bradley Burn Farm.
- Any car repairs, while you are here, can be done by Auckside Motors LTD. Your car can be picked up at the door and returned.
